The Wakefield Second Shepherds’ Play ctd.

The third shepherd enters. His name is Daw and he is a boy hired by Gib. He complains about the weather, which according to him has never been so bad as it is now. He notices Gib and Coll, greets them and asks for something to eat and drink. Gib and Coll answer with cursing and tell him that they have already eaten. Daw’s retort (as far as I could make it out, it’s quite difficult to follow even with footnotes) is that he’s going to work as well as he is paid, i.e. not well at all, if they continue to treat him like this.
