‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’ ctd.

I skipped an installment yesterday because I am up to my ears with grading and proofreading. Today I am catching up, but the note will be very brief. So the party starts, the first course is served with the accompaniment of trumpets and food, wine and service are top-notch. And then… the Green Knight enters the room on horseback. No, not a knight in green. The man is not only wearing green, but he himself is literally green and his horse is green too. There is a wonderful and elaborate description of all his accoutrements, including such details as golden threads in the horse’s mane, which is artfully plaited. The man is also big like a volleyball player but trim of waist, with long hair and beard. So, an impressive sight.
